2011 Junior Match Reports

Under 11's v Daisy Hill


Standish U11's travelled to Daisy Hill for the penultimate match of the season. After a day of contiuous showers it was doubtful whether the match would go ahead, however the outfield and wicket was soggy but playable. Daisy Hill fielded an understrength side with some children playing cricket for the first time.  Daisy Hill batted first and managed a creditable 246 runs. The pick of the Standish bowlers was Tom Brightcliffe with 4 wkts for 20runs.  Standish batted and lost early wkts due to some dubious cricket shots. The total of 246 was looking good for Daisy Hill. Tom Brightcliffe top scored with 21 runs abley assisted by Alex Weaver who scored 17. Standish eventually scored 270 from their alloted 15 overs.  Another good win for Standish U11's, the last match of the season is at home to Adlington, they must not lose focus as the last match approaches and a top four finish is very possible. 


Under 15's v Daisy Hill


Thursday 4th August - U15's batting too good for Daisy Hill. In the final home game of the season a strong batting performance set Daisy Hill a tough target of 163 to win for the loss of just 3 wickets. Nick Smith, Matty Hesketh and Tom White all reaching their retirement target of 35 without losing their wickets.  The Standish bowling attack shared the 20 overs amongst the 10 fielders and restricted the Daisy Hill batsmen to 76 runs for the loss of 7 wickets at the close.

The team next travel to Adlington searching for the away victory that would secure the league title. Good luck!


Under 11's v Astley & Tyldesley


Standish batted first and scored 43 on tough grass wicket that saw several balls deviate dramatically.  A & T started well and the target of 43 seemed within reach after the first 3 pairs.  However excellent bowling from Standish finally sealed the victory with wickets falling regularly.  Standish Under 11's continue their push up the league.


Under 15's v Astley & Tyldesley


Thursday 28th July, 10 man Standish win a high scoring match to continue their impressive season. On a good batting wicket Nick Smith and Jack Heaton both retired not out on 35 giving the home team an excellent start. Good batting support from Tom White, Matty Hesketh & Dev Kirby enabling the home team to reach 136 for the loss of 5 wickets.
Jack Heatons week away on holiday had obviously helped his cricket as he removed 3 A&T batsmen for just 19 runs. Jake McCarthy making the step up from the U'13 team continued to apply the pressure taking 3 for 19 before Dev Kirby took a further 2 batsmen with the visitors falling 20 odd runs short on 115 for 8 at the close of play. Another good alround team performance in the chase for league and cup glory.


Under 11’s v Golborne


Thursday 21st July, a strong Standish side took on Golborne at Green Lane with an eye on the top half of the table.  Golborne won the toss and put Standish in to bat, Standish set a target of 258 from their 15 overs.  In reply Golborne scored 219 runs with 14 of them coming in the last over.  Another good victory for the 11’s sees them rise to 4th in the league.

Thursday 21st July, 10 man Standish U15's win top of the table clash at Golborne. Tom Atkinson 35 not out and Tom White 31, falling to the last ball whilst going for "the big one" providing outstanding batting performances aided by a quick fire 13 from Matty Hesketh.

Golborne chasing a modest target falling 7 runs short @ 85 all out in a thrilling finish. Tom White completing his Man of the Match performance with 4 for 17 with the ball, Mike White and Matty Hesketh getting 2 apiece and Tom Atkinson and Dev Kirby chipping in. Special thanks to Graham Fox and George Walsh we couldn't have done it without you!



Under 15’s v Walshaw Cup Semi Final


Wednesday 20th July Standish under 15’s travelled to Walshaw to play the re-arranged cup semi-final.  Standish batted first and set a target of 136 with N Smith 35* M Hesketh 38* and the rest led by J Ashurst with 16 all contributing.  In reply Walshaw managed just 63 with T Atkinson 4 wickets & a catch & T White 3 wickets, T Atkinson also took a good catch with N Smith taking 2 stumpings as well. All in all a good result see’s Standish put one hand on the cup!!  Well done lads.

Under 15’s v Atherton

Thursday 14th July, saw Standish CC under 15’s take on Atherton at the Green Lane ground.  A good all round team performance from Standish in the field saw Atherton who batted first score 74, on a beautiful summers evening watched by a healthy crowd.  In reply Standish passed the target in the 16th over with ease and returned to winning ways and the top of the league, at a crucial point of the season.

Sadly the match was conceded to Atherton as the end of the school year prevented Standish from fielding a full side.




Under 11’s v Bolton Indians


Thursday 7th July saw Standish CC travel to Bolton Indians ground in Darcy Lever, Bolton.  Bolton Indians won the toss and batted first scoring just 34 runs to add to the 200 starting point.  In response Standish started slowly but once again did enough to win the match by 9 runs, and keep themselves mid table in the league.



Under 15's v Elton


Standish CC travelled to the Bury to take on Elton CC on Thursday 30th June.  Elton batted first and scored 105 with wickets being shared by Jack Ashurst, Devin Kirby, Paddy Tyrer and Daniel Salmon.  In reply only Nick Smith managed to retire with an unbeaten 36 as Standish crashed to another defeat being bowled out for just 80 with 4.5 overs remaining.  Perhaps it is the amount of cricket some of the team are playing or the loss of Mike White with a broken wrist that has had an effect on recent results, whatever it is let’s hope winnings way return soon!!


Under 11's v Elton


Standish CC welcomed Elton CC to the Green Lane ground on Thursday 30th June.  Elton won the toss and batted first scoring 48 runs to add to the 200 starting point giving a total of 248, with Alex Dibble taking 2 wickets in the 1st over.  In reply Standish smashed 78 runs on to their 200 run start to win by 30 runs with T Brightcliffe 24 and D Harrison 16.


Under 15’s v Edgworth


Standish CC under 15’s travelled to Edgworth on Thursday 23rd June still unbeaten.  Standish batted first and were all out for a shocking 28 runs.  Edgworth knocked them off in just 7 overs without loss, bringing an abrupt end to the unbeaten record in a complete shock result.



Under 11’s v Edgworth


Standish CC under 11’s entertained Edgworth at the Green Lane ground.  Standish batted first and scored 252 in the 15 overs A Reid 15 and T Brightcliffe 15.  In reply Edgworth fell 1 short of the target handing Standish another well deserved victory.  It was an excellent around team performance from Standish with everyone contributing.



Under 15’s v Flixton (Cup)


Sunday 19th June was a busy for some travelling to Flixton in the morning for a cup game before A & T in the afternoon for 2nd XI duties.  Thankfully though it didn’t affect the under 15’s unbeaten record as the knocked Flixton out of the cup.  Standish batted first scoring 86 with Devon Kirby scoring 27 of them.  In reply Flixton were all out for 78 with Jack Ashurst taking 3 wickets, in a close game which saw Standish come out on top and continue their excellent run.



Under 15’s v Walshaw


An unbeaten Standish side travelled to Walshaw with an unchanged side.  Standish won the toss and batted first scoring 135 for 5, N Smith 35* J Heaton 29.  In reply Walshaw reached 113, pushing Standish hard all the way but falling short in the end.

Thursday 9th June saw Walshaw visit the Green Lane ground to take on a confident S

Standish CC after last week’s win.  Standish won the toss and batted first scoring slowly but not losing many wickets and ending with a total of 229.  In reply Walshaw were made to earn the victory with some excellent fielding and catching by Standish.  Walshaw finally scored 248 in their 15 overs, with the final pair scoring most of the runs.


Under 15's v Flixton

An unbeaten Standish U15's side travelled to Flixton for the away fixture on Thursday 2nd June.  Flixton won the toss and put Standish in to bat.  Standish scored 106 in the 20 overs with N Smith scoring 46.  A strong bowling attack saw most Standish bowlers take a wicket or 2 and some spectacular catches from J Heaton and J Ashurst saw Standish clinch victory in the 19th over with Flixton all out for just 67.


Under 11's v Flixton

Flixton were the visitors to Green Lane on Thursday 2nd June.  Flixton won the toss and batted first, an excellent team performance in the field restricted Flixton to 60 runs from their 15 overs giving them a total of 260.  In reply a steady Standish side performed as well with the bat as they did with the ball and eased to victory by 47 runs scoring 107 (307 total) off their 15 overs.


Under 13's v Darcy Lever

Standish travelled to Darcy Lever with a full strength side and left victorious.  Darcy Lever scored 83 for 8 from their 20 overs with Jacob McCarty taking 4 wickets in his spell and retiring with 25 runs.  All round a good effort from Standish.


Under 15's v Blackrod (Cup)

Standish under 15's welcomed Blackrod to the Green Lane ground for the first round of the cup.  Standish batted first and scored 107 for 9 with runs being shared evenly.  In reply Blackrod were all out for 48 again wickets being shared around the team.


Under 11's v Blackrod (Cup)

Standish under 11's travelled to Blackrod in the first round of the cup.  Blackrod won toss and batted scoring 239 D Harrison only wicket taker with 1.  Standish in reply were 216 from 15 overs, D Harrison scoring 12 and A Dibble scored 11


Under 15's v Lostock

Standish under 15's entertained Lostock at Green Lane.  Lostock batted first and scored 94 for 6 with most Standish bowlers claiming a wicket in their spell.  Standish started well with Jack Heaton retiring unbeaten, the rest of the team chipped in and finally passed the target with 2.5 overs to go for the loss of 6 wickets.

Standish under 11's travelled to Lostock's temporary ground at Bolton School on Thursday 19th May.  Standish fielded first and with only 9 Lostock scored 77 runs on top of the 200 start, Joe Brightcliffe taking 3 wickets.  In reply Standish batted superbly and pushed Lostock all the way, eventually finishing on 268 with Dan Harrison scoring 28 runs in the final partnership.


Under 15's v Darcy Lever

Standish Under 15's entertained Darcy Lever, who didn't lose a game all last season, to the Green Lane ground on Thursday 12th May.  Standish won the toss and batted first scoring freely from the first ball and reaching 119 for 3 in their 20 overs, Nick Smith 35*, Mike White 24 and Matthew Hesketh 22.  In reply Darcy Lever never got going finishing on 62 all out in the 19th over, Jack Hilton the pick of the bowlers with a 6 wicket haul 4 of them stumped by Nick Smith, Jack Heaton and Jack Ashurst also joining in the wickets, to give Standish a comprehensive victory.


Under 15's v Blackrod

Standish under 15's travelled the short journey to Blackrod on a wet Thursday evening. The match was reduced to 16 overs per side with Standish batting first and setting a healthy target of 122 for the loss of just 2 wickets. Jack Heaton and Nick Smith both retired on 35. Blackrod in reply fell 17 runs short scoring just 105 for 3 in their 16 overs. Another good victory for Standish CC, well done lads.

A strong looking Standish side looked ready to take on Blackrod but the weather beat them to it. The umpires deemed the ground and conditions unfit to play and this proved the right decision as conditions worsened later.

The under 13's battled well with only 10 men to restrict Golborne to 85 in 20 overs. A good start with very good straight bowling saw Golborne reduced to 0 for 3 in the 4th over. In reply Standish made 73 in 20 overs for the loss of only wicket !!! Jacob McCarthy retiring on 25 and Dan Harrison 23*. Another excellent team effort by all concerned, well done.


Juniors Start New Season Well !!

Under 11's, 13's and 15's have all started well winning their first games. The 11's hosted Spring View on 28th April and won by 47 runs, the 13's travelled to Adlington on 27th April and won by 6 wickets, and the 15's travelled to Spring View on 28th April and won by 68 runs.
The signs look good for the future of Standish CC with promising juniors in all age groups.
